The 24 Hour Plays:
VIRAL MONOLOGUES
DCSchools Edition
Castle View Theatre Company and Castle View’s Production Ensemble theatre class are happy to announce our spring performances of 24 Hour Play: Viral Monologues, DCSchools Edition. With our current state of events in our community and world, the class made the decision to look at online performance opportunities, which led us to a group called 24 Hour Plays. This group, based out of New York, has produced thousands of plays and sponsored events literally around the world. Past participants include Jennifer Aniston, Daveed Diggs, Peter Dinklage, Jesse Eisenberg, Edie Falco, America Ferrera, Greta Gerwig, Oscar Isaac, John Krasinski, Anthony Mackie, Tracy Morgan, Chris Rock, Liev Schreiber and many more. Recently, in the spring of 2020, faced with a world where we can’t gather in person, they have launched the Viral Monologues!
The format is what makes this event unique – in addition to writing and recording work to be released online, the entire process takes place within a 24-hour period. Starting at 6 pm on one day (Thursday, March 30), our writers write an original monologue which is then passed on to a performer who memorizes, rehearses, and performs that monologue which is recorded and released via social media by 6 pm the following day (Friday, April 1).
In addition to our class members, we are excited to collaborate with students from other schools in Douglas County School District, including Rock Canyon High School, Highlands Ranch High School, Douglas County High School, Ponderosa High School, and Renaissance Secondary School, in addition to students from Castle View High School’s Thespian Troupe 7117. In this creative process, students from one school will be matched with a student from a different school to produce that monologue. Students will also participate in a monologue workshop with a teaching artist from the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
Our work begins this Thursday, March 30th when writers will be given an introductory video from their assigned performer, who will then take the evening and night to write an original monologue. Performers will be given the newly-written monolog the following morning (Friday, May 1st) and will have the day to memorize, rehearse, and perform via electronic recording. Those performances will then be released via social media and websites from each participating school.
Join us this Friday, starting at 6 pm, as we share the collective efforts of theatre student from around Douglas County School District in 24 Hour Plays: Viral Monologues, DCSChools Edition. Information will be released shortly about the various social media platforms that we will be using to publish the performances.
